First in the Brass Band Series, this arrangement of the Tschaikowsky work is intended by Myers as a retrospective. During his boyhood in the 50's, he participated in a number of contests at the Kings Hall, Belle Vue (Manchester), where he heard the glorious, inspirational sounds of Faireys, Fodens, Black Dyke and CWS(Manchester). In a tribute to all those bandsmen of that era, who truly played with soul, this setting, with all of its superb harmonies, is perfectly tailored for the magnificent musical textures of the traditional Brass Band. As a Test Piece it will challenge the ensemble playing skills, while being musically awe-inspiring. A passionate performance of this work by massed bands is guaranteed to thrill audiences.
