Fifth in the Haydn series, the work is a thrilling setting of Papa’s famous “Lark/Hornpipe” quartet, featuring extended woodwind solos. The first movement features a wonderful solo for flute and strings, which includes a cadenza prepared by internationally renowned flautist Sheridon Stokes. The beautiful Adagio contains a series of solos from the woodwinds accompanied by muted strings. The sparkling Minuet is followed by the Hornpipe movement, which, beginning with a cadenza, places the piccolo in the spotlight, bringing the work to an exciting close.
