Fourth in the Haydn series, the orchestration of this composition has transformed it into a truly symphonic work. The first movement , possibly forecasting the future for a young Beethoven, contains primary and secondary themes, bridges passages and development, all blending into an exciting opening. This is followed by a beautiful pastoral adagio scored for muted strings. Myers expertly switches to the woodwind and brass for the spirited Minuet. In the Finale Myers constructs a concerto-like setting for trumpet and French horn in classic Haydn style. Click on the audio (mp3) samples to listen to montages drawn from this sophisticated work.
