First in a series of orchestral works based on selected Mozart string quartets. The four movement composition opens with a theme and variations, followed by a simple minuet. The slow movement is a gem, with a beautiful aria-like melody played by the entire violin section with sparse colla voce accompaniment, followed by brief horn and woodwind solos. The mini-symphony concludes with a jaunty rondo, full of dynamic contrasts. On account of its charm and brevity, this mini-symphony can be relied upon to please audiences worldwide, particularly in all-Mozart concerts and festivals.
