Third in the Haydn series, this work begins with a pastoral folk-melody followed by a set of restatements and variations played by woodwind soloists, not unlike Ravel's method in his Bolero; The second movement is full of Papa's surprises; including an exciting fuguetta. The minuet is followed by an exhilarating gigue in which the orchestration just bursts with joyful exuberance.
