Second in the Haydn series, the first movement is a joyful, fun-filled ride, while the seamless second movement fluctuates between major and minor variations on a beautiful, simple folk melody. The charming Menuetto is a perfect energetic example of the midway point between the Landler and the Waltz. The superbly orchestrated Vivace consists of a Gigue in 6/8, demonstrating the virtuosity of the entire orchestra, string quartet, string ensemble and woodwind soloists, culminating in a gusto-filled finale.
